DESCRIPTION

CANCIDAS is a sterile lyophilized product for intravenous IV infusion that contains a semisynthetic lipopeptide echinocandin compound synthesized from a fermentation product of Glarea lozoyensis CANCIDAS is an echinocandin antifungal that inhibits the synthesis of  13Dglucan an integral component of the fungal cell wall

USES

Caspofungin is used to treat a variety of serious fungal infections It is often used in patients who cannot use or do not respond to other antifungal medications such as amphotericin B itraconazole Caspofungin belongs to a class of drugs known as echinocandins It works by stopping the growth of fungus

HOW TO USE

This medication is usually given by injection into a vein as directed by your doctor usually once a day It should be injected slowly over 1 hour The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatmentIf you are giving this medication to yourself at home learn all preparation and usage instructions from your health care professional Do not shake the container Before using check this product visually for particles or discoloration If either is present do not use the liquid Learn how to store and discard medical supplies safelyContinue to use this medication for the full treatment course even if symptoms disappear after a few days Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow which may result in a return of the infectionTell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens

SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea diarrhea fever redwarm skin flushing headache or irritation at the injection site may occur If any of these effects persist or worsen tell your doctorRemember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects Many people using this medication do not have serious side effectsTell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects including persistent nauseavomiting severe stomachabdominal pain dark urine yellowing eyesskinA very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare
